NEWS!

A LOT of changes have occurred this past year. I got engaged on December 23rd, married February 12th and gave birth to our daughter on September 27th. And... we also moved out of the city and Dan changed jobs.

Zosia was born at 2:17 pm after 12 hours of active labor (pain medication free). She weighed in at 6 pounds 13 ounces.

And finally... I am no longer vegan. At 12 weeks of pregnancy I broke my veganism by devouring 9 hard boiled eggs in one sitting. At 16 weeks I ate fish and at 18 weeks I had grass fed red meat. From 18- 31 weeks I craved hamburgers. Throughout my pregnancy I was very careful to consume organic vegetables, fruit, grains, beans, wild caught fish, and grass fed meat. I burned out on organic eggs pretty quickly after a binge period but I have resumed eating them. I definitely had a plan to have a vegan pregnancy, (reading up on the topic and supplementing), but instead I decided to listen to my body and eat what it craved. I followed a really clean diet with the occasional vegetable pizza without cheese. Jalapenos were calling me and I was known to inhale a jar of jalapeno stuffed green olives within minutes. I also could not get enough strawberries during the first half of my pregnancy. I continue to be an omnivore after Zosia's birth, being very particular with the quality of animal products I consume.

Even though I am no longer vegan I plan to continue with this address as I do still "crave vegan" dishes, however I will be featuring organic, seasonal and nutritionally dense meals that do sometimes contain animal products. Future post topics include: Liver cleanse before pregnancy, Supplement regimen, Edible body-care products, Homemade kombucha, Non-toxic homemade cleaning solutions... Stay tuned. I promise you will not have to wait another year for an update.

Protein Shake

This morning I  made a fiber packed Protein Shake.
1 frozen banana
8 oz unsweetened coconut milk
3 Tbsp hemp seeds
1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
1 Tbsp ground flax seeds
-Blend until smooth and enjoy!

This 8 oz drink contained at least 11 grams of protein, (3 Tbsp of hemp seeds have 11 grams). It was delicious and held me over a couple of hours until i had time to sit down to eat.

Farm Vegetable Dinner in the Apt

I used up the remains of our farm produce box to make dinner: lemon cucumber,vine-ripe tomatoes and broccoli. I added Arugula, hemp seeds, lemon juice, olive oil, flax seed oil, dried basil and sea salt with short grain brown rice. As you may have noticed it is in my large salad bowl and yes I ate it all by myself.
